Thursday morning, January 22nd, 2009, the Hanoi People’s Committee Department of Transport has put the Long Bien Bus Interchange in operation.

Localized at the foot of Long Bien Bridge, this project which is carried out by the Hanoi People’s Committee and the Region Ile of France (France), is one of the outputs of the EcoTrans Project co-financed by the European Commission (1.2 million Euros in the frame of Asia Pro Eco project). It aims to improve the public transport network of the Capital City by expertise, trainings and realization of pilot projects.

From now on, the Long Bien Bus Interchange assure the connection between 21 lines in order to improve the users comfort and the traffic flow. This is the second Hanoian Bus interchange station after Cau Giay, which was inaugurated in 2005, carried out under the cooperation framework with Region Ile de France as well.

During the following  weeks the site will be completed by a new layout of the public space along the access on the bridge. In the future the surrounding of the Long Bien Bridge will become more attractive. The new layout of the area will strengthen the link between Hanoians and one of the symbols of their cities history. The finalization of the project is scheduled for March 2009.
